Elisabeth Kelvin is an accomplished and passionate international professional arts practitioner, specialising in visual and performing arts. As both a visual artist and musician, her current practice incorporates elements of both disciplines: she paints what she hears, and plays what she sees.
"Abstraction in my art is informed by my professional experience of music performance and composition. Personal - and historical - ideas regarding the differences and shared distinctions of aural and visual media are addressed, explored, and developed in each new work." - Elisabeth Kelvin, 2014
Elisabeth launched her professional visual arts practice in 2000, and since then has staged solo exhibitions and participated in collaborative shows in Australia and Austria. She became an active member of the One+2 Artist Studios, Sydney in 2009. Her visual arts work is mostly abstract, and encompasses a range of media including oil, watercolour, pastel, ink and mixed media. Recent career highlights include a well-received solo exhibition, Harbour City Tones and Colours, at Salerno Gallery, Sydney, Australia and Malen, Spielen, Tanzen, at Vinotek Rochus, Vienna, Austria.
Elisabeth is a professional music performer and teacher. Educated in Australia and the United States, she holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Michigan State University (USA). Elisabeth has performed professionally in the USA, Europe and Australia, presenting her own compositions, collaborations, and jazz greats. Her visual arts exhibitions include performance elements.
Elisabeth provides music training to both children and adults, in formal education institutions and through her individual development program.
Her musical practice centres around woodwind instruments, primarily saxophone and clarinet, as well as original composition. Elisabeth is one half of Titan Chunky Compositions with composer and partner John Plankenhorn. The partnership of around fifteen years, is proud to have survived the recent GFC.
When not painting or playing, Elisabeth enjoys learning dance and languages, and hosts cultural soirees filled with music, art, conversation and humour. She lives in Vienna and seeks joy in the natural surroundings wherever she is.
